Welcome to Narayan’s blog on memes.
Today we are going to speak about how the concept of ‘Memes’ is getting popularized and evolved in India.
Although memes did exist since a long time in India, they were never as popular and ever evolving as they are now. The growth is largely credited to the vast teenage tech-savvy population of India that is dependent largely on social media and other platforms for their entertainment needs. MEMES act as a stress buster and enhance the mood. There are a variety of memes, the concept of ‘DANK’ memes evolved from the West. ‘DANK’ means something that is excessively overdone and nonsensical to the point of becoming comically IRONIC.

It is observed that some video or image gets viral and is an instant ‘Template’ for Memes. The images above are famous templates that are used by people worldwide to make memes. It’s difficult to trace the origin of most of the memes because the Internet is such a vast space, where it’s almost impossible to find the source of something unknown. Some person ,somewhere posts something on some website ,that’s how it works, someone will find it funny and share it with someone, and that’s how the “SOME CYCLE” works.

Reddit is one of the best sources for the best quality memes. Reddit works on the concept of threads and subreddits for each type of memes.
For eg for Historical Memes we have ‘r/historymemes’ and for Dank Memes we have ‘r/dankmemes’
2019 saw the most no of memes shared ever in India, never ever has there been such a flow of memes into our social groups. Most of the people who work hard to make such high quality memes aren’t credited or recognized properly , because content tends to get re-posted and copied with giving the proper credits. 2019 saw the battle between Swedish Comedy YouTuber ‘PewDiePie’ and Indian record label ‘T-Series’ for the #1 Most Subscribed YT channel spot. Eventually , T-Series, an organization managed to beat PewDiePie, an individual creator , haha, kudos to T-Series. PewDiePie’s content is based on memes, he has spread and made memes famous over Europe and throughout the world. The Indian channel ‘Saiman Says’ can be credited for bringing in the dank meme revolution in India, althought it did exist, but not at a large scale as it does ,right now.
